There’s nothing like a good, old-fashioned double standard to make you feel alive.
Apparently the rage these days is for neo-con business leaders to to take responsibility for creating jobs but not for those jobs’ demise.
At least a couple tycoons have sent “all-company” alerts telling the employees that if Obama is reelected their jobs will be in jeopardy. It’s true, I read it on the internet. But you can fact check it here and here.
Talk about a downer. Whatever happened to just an awkward “reply all” when you want to badmouth a colleague? I haven’t seen brazen extortion on this level since my mother told me I needed to vote for Reagan lest I not be able to complete college.
Even if you can get beyond the ethical issue of preying upon what is probably an ill-informed and vulnerable class of people (at least in Siegel’s case who no doubt employs hotel workers that have limited English speaking ability), there are several problems with this doomsday theory. The most glaring of which is – unless you got your MBA from correspondence school and have trouble CEOing your way out of a paper bag, sending an email like this is basically a signal to your employees that you can’t lead the organization if you’ve been given anything less than an optimal set of circumstances.
Christ, anyone can create a job, the skill is in sustaining it.
