Shameless

In the event you missed this story that broke over the weekend, you missed one of the most bald-faced acts of extortion, retribution, hypocrisy, and all around tantrum throwing from the very same people that preach personal responsibility and pride in self achievement without government intervention.

On October 16 we chronicled the all-company notice that Murray Energy CEO, Robert Murray, sent to his employees claiming that if President Obama were reelected, the company would have to institute layoffs. Well, sho ’nuff, he kept his word.

There are two possibilities here: either Murray can’t manage his business and needed to make these layoffs regardless of the Obama bogey-man; or he is simply playing politics with the lives of 160 coal belt families to make a point about how callously rabid he is in his right-wingnuttery.  My suspicion is the latter, which is a new low – even for Murray.

“Despicable” doesn’t even begin to describe the treatment of these workers (many of whom probably voted for Romney – 102 of them are in Utah) who battle black lung disease and faulty mine conditions just to put food on their families’ tables.

First off, the guy that got reelected is the same guy that has been in office over the last 4 years when there was presumably enough work for these employees.

Second, the abject hyperbole contained in in the “prayer” forwarded to Murray employees betrays the ideology behind this contrivance. Murray claimed that  America had voted “in favor of redistribution, national weakness and reduced standard of living and lower and lower levels of personal freedom.” I wouldn’t even wipe my dog’s ass with that drivel.

As noted in the October 16 post, if Robert Murray’s business plan needs to rely on some uneven playing field created by a like-minded-ideologue in the White House, what kind of CEO is he?

Perhaps the most telling passage from Murray’s manifesto is his plea to the almighty – “Lord, please forgive me and anyone with me in Murray Energy Corporation for the decisions that we are now forced to make to preserve the very existence of any of the enterprises that you have helped us build.”

Wow, and to think they spent so much time in August convincing us that THEY built it.
